A Portland Maine Wedding Full of Heart: Marissa & John’s Joy-Filled Celebration
There are some weddings that feel like pure joy from beginning to end — the kind of days where every moment is emotional, effortless, and deeply personal. Marissa and John’s wedding in Portland, Maine was exactly that. With a heartfelt first look at the Portland Harbor Hotel, a stunning ceremony inside the historic Masonic Temple, and a lively reception at 33 Elmwood in Westbrook, their entire celebration was a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple.
As their photographer, I had the honor of documenting a day filled with love, laughter, and one adorable four-legged family member who nearly stole the show.
There is something magical about Portland in the early afternoon — the soft nautical light, the quiet corners of the Old Port, and the timeless charm of the city’s brickwork. Marissa and John chose the Portland Harbor Hotel for their first look, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
Marissa stepped onto the courtyard patio, glowing with excitement, while John waited just a few steps away. The moment they saw each other was emotional and full of warmth — you could feel the anticipation melt instantly into joy.
Then came their dog, tail wagging furiously and adding an extra layer of sweetness to the portraits. The three of them together — newlyweds and their pup — created some of my favorite candid moments of the day. Pets always bring out genuine happiness, and this was no exception.
From the hotel, everyone made their way to the Masonic Temple, one of Portland’s most iconic architectural treasures. The tall columns, sweeping staircases, and dramatic interior made for an unforgettable backdrop.
Inside the grand hall, friends and family gathered as soft music filled the room. When Marissa walked down the aisle, the entire space seemed to pause. The ceremony was heartfelt and intimate — full of meaningful vows, happy tears, and laughter. Surrounded by the historic beauty of the temple, their “I do” felt both timeless and deeply personal.
After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate — and Marissa and John chose the perfect venue for that. 33 Elmwood in Westbrook blends industrial charm with relaxed fun. With its modern décor, warm lighting, and activities like bowling and bocce, guests had more than enough ways to enjoy themselves.
The night kicked off with their first dance, followed by heartfelt toasts from the people who know them best. And once the dance floor opened, everyone — kids, adults, and even a few surprise dancers — made their way out to celebrate.
The energy in the room was incredible. Between the laughter, the music, and the constant clicking of bowling pins in the background, this reception had a personality all its own. It was the perfect mix of elegance, intimacy, and fun.
From their emotional first look at the Portland Harbor Hotel to their unforgettable celebration at 33 Elmwood, Marissa and John’s wedding day was warm, joyful, and beautifully authentic. Every moment reflected their love — relaxed, genuine, and full of heart.
Marissa and John, thank you for trusting me to capture your story. Your day was an absolute honor to photograph, and I wish you both (and your sweet pup!) a lifetime of happiness.
